Premise. AFTER LIFE is a panfandom game based in the world of Severance. Lumon Industries, a biotech corporation, has created a medical procedure known as "severance," which splits the mind in two. Outside of the Lumon building, the company's employees are their normal selves. However, inside, they become alternate versions of themselves, perfectly capable of basic human function but without any of their memories, and no knowledge of what their outside selves are like. Entering and exiting these separate consciousnesses is instantaneous: for the "innies," the versions of the employees that exist only inside Lumon, their entire lives are lived in the office. For the "outies," going to work is as simple as losing a chunk of hours out of the day. (You can watch this phenomenon at work here.) For some, the procedure is just a necessary part of going to work. For others, it's a reprieve from the difficulties of everyday life. For the purposes of this game, characters have already been severed once; they do not remember their "canon" lives (though they must have a compelling reason to have been severed in the first place), and all have some rationale as to how they've ended up in the town of Kier. They are unaware that they have been severed in order to join the game, and believe they have always lived in this world, if not necessarily in Kier itself. Characters also have the option of being severed again in order to work at Lumon. This is not, however, compulsory, as there are also jobs available in town. (Players may also choose to inquire after the third, secret option: to have their character restricted to Lumon entirely, e.g. to exist only as an "innie." However, we ask that you contact the mods if you are interested in going in this direction.) As the game progresses, characters will ideally begin to realize that something is wrong, whether through their "innies" rebelling against the confined nature of their existence or the townspeople recovering their past memories. There will be events both within Lumon and in the town, but plot progression will primarily be driven by character relationships. |
Activity. Please submit your activity check in the last seven days of the month/by the final day of the month. Each player should have their own top level, with a follow-up comment for each of their characters and their check-ins left below that, with the month and year in the subject line. See the mod example below. For hiatuses and drops, please contact a mod. |
Requests. If you would like to request your character receive an item or you have an idea for a plot, run it by the mods here! Item examples are things your character would have found significant in their past life, e.g. a wedding ring, a special dagger, even a dragon egg. The smaller your item is/the easier it is to explain its appearance in Kier, the more likely you are to have your item approved. For instance, if you were going to request the Avengers Tower appear in Kier, that might be a bit tough. Player plots can be as simple as your character having a housewarming party, or as complex as trying to smuggle information out of Lumon, and mods will work with you accordingly. This is also the place to make any business or housing requests, e.g. if your character wants to move to a different house or wants to find employment at a different place in town, or maybe even start their own business! |
